How to Make Whipped Cream

Whipped cream is one of my favorite cream toppings to eat. Seriously! It’s light, it’s fluffy, and it’s very very tasty. With just three ingredients, this is one of the easiest recipes for anything. Learn how to make whipped cream, if you don’t know yet how. It is sooo easy and tastes so much better than store bought.

I find that with store bought whipped cream, (such as Cool Whip) there is always a kind of a “plastic” aftertaste. And if you’ve looked at the ingredient list for store bought creams, you probably have no idea what half of those ingredients are. Sooo, there is absolutely no excuse not to make your own. It only requires 3 ingredients (2 if you don’t add vanilla extract) and takes just a few minutes.

How to Make Whipped Cream (Step-by-Step)

Using a measuring cup, measure out one cup of heavy whipping cream and pour it into a small mixing bowl.

Add one tablespoon of plain white sugar. A lot of times, recipes call for powdered sugar to make whipped cream. Since I don’t always have powdered sugar on hand, I prefer to use normal sugar. If you do use powdered sugar, you can add it to the cream once the cream has thickened already. Normal sugar, however, needs a bit more time to dissolve, so add it at the beginning.

Using a hand mixer, beat the cream on low speed at the beginning, until it thickens. This helps with the cream splashing everywhere. Once the cream thickens a bit, you can turn the mixer to high speed.

Once the cream has thickened a bit but is not quite done, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Add vanilla extract to cream

Beat cream further on high speed, until stiff peaks form. Reduce the speed to low again right before the cream is done. It’s easy to over beat the cream, so slowing the speed down gives you more time to react.

There are sooo many ways to use whipped cream. Top it on a cake or dessert (like jello), add the cream to your coffee (check out my Cold Brew Coffee Recipe), or just eat it plain with strawberries. Enjoy!
