Poppy Seed Dressing with Honey
This poppy seed dressing with honey is perfectly sweet and tangy and goes well with leafy green salads. It’s easy to make and comes together very fast. Best part, there is no sugar added.
I first tried poppy seed dressing in a salad a couple of years ago and was impressed with how delicious it was. It was a store-bought version and I thought of researching other versions and trying to make my own, but never quite had the time for it. UNTIL Whole Fed Homestead posted a recipe in her Instagram stories. I took a screenshot and came back to it later when I was making a salad.
This particular recipe is derived from her recipe because, let’s face it, we all have different tastes and though her recipe was good, it was a tad bit too sweet for a salad dressing recipe (IMO). Soooo, long story short, here is my perfect recipe for poppy seed salad dressing.
It really is absolutely delicious.

Ingredients for Poppy Seed Salad Dressing
Honey – use whichever one you like. I prefer a fluid honey that is light gold to light brown in color (darker honey has stronger flavors and I wanted this to be more mild).
Mayonnaise – I like using Hellmann’s (not affiliate), but I don’t always have it on hand, so I just use whatever grocery store brand I have at the time.
Poppy seeds (duh!) – The poppy seeds sold here in Germany are usually already pre-ground as that is what people usually use in their baking. I used those since that is what I had on hand. But whole poppy seeds should also work great here. Amazon has quite a few options, like this organic option from Frontier Co-Op.
Salt – I used sea salt, but any should work.
Apple Cider Vinegar – can also use white wine or red wine vinegar. I liked apple cider vinegar here because it seemed to be more mild while still having enough tang.
Olive oil – choose the best quality that you can get
How to Make Poppy Seed Dressing with Honey
Combine honey and mayonnaise in a small jar (I like to re use old jars from jam or mason jars from canning). Stir with a small spoon until honey is mixed well with the mayo. Since honey is generally thick and sticky it needs to be mixed well otherwise you will end up with clumps of honey.
Add the rest of the ingredients to the jar and mix well together. Then, cover the jar with a lid and shake everything together for a couple of minutes or until well combined.
Store in the fridge until ready to use.
